The Master Builders Sunshine Coast Project of the Year is awarded to ASCO Constructions for its landmark development of the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre.
The leading Australian construction company is renowned for its consistent delivery of high quality projects, completed on time and on budget and the outstanding Maroochydore Homemaker Centre was no exception.
The scale of the building is worthy of admiration.
Encompassing over 45,000m2 of built footprint area as well as over 70,000m2 of total floor area and approaching 500m in length, the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre is an iconic feature of the Maroochy Boulevard retail precinct, housing showrooms and commercial floor space for leading retailers an companies.
Unlike traditional bulky goods showrooms, the Homemaker Centre is a fully enclosed and integrated centre, giving shoppers and upmarket shopping mall style experience.
Throughout the project the ADCO team enjoyed a productive and co-operative relationship with Harvey Norman (the building developer), Leffler Simes Architects, VDM Engineers and other consultant team members, the Sunshine Coast City Council and a workforce of subcontracted building specialist consisting of mostly local contractors.
The overall level of workmanship on the project is extremely high.
ADCO and Leffler Simes Architects achieved a visual differentiation on building segments through material and façade alignment differentiation along the long Maroochy Boulevard façade.
A workforce consisting of many local Sunshine Coast contractors exhibited superb attention to detail and this is reflected in the obvious quality of finish achieved throughout.
In particular the coffered ceilings, continuous frameless shop front glazing and terrazzo flooring give the centre a high-class market feel.
ADCO overcame challenges including significant periods of inclement weather to deliver the high-profile development on time and on budget. The large scale of the building and financial pressures of moving the bulky goods retail model into a comparatively expensive enclosed mall, required tight control on design, material selection and building as simple and cost effective to construct as possible, while maintaining the ease of use and serviceability for the owners and bulky goods retailers at the same time giving shoppers a prestige shopping experience.
The judges felt that ADCO had reached an incredible standard with this project and believed the complexity of the job and challenges faced made the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre a very worthy winner of the 2013 Master Builders Sunshine Coast Project of the Year award. The Maroochydore Homemaker Centre is also a winner in the awards Retail Facilities over $5 million category.
