SunCentral Newsletter February 2016
February has been a busy month for SunCentral Maroochydore with a key contract awarded, another out to tender and the Queensland Premier visiting the site to mark the start of construction of the Sunshine Coast’s new CBD.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson turned the first sod on SunCentral Maroochydore on 11 February 2016 in the presence of local business and community leaders and media.
Premier Palaszczuk hailed the project as an economic game-changer for the Sunshine Coast with SunCentral Maroochydore expected to generate 30,000 new jobs by 2040 and inject $4.4 billion into the region’s economy.
The successful tenderer for bulk earthworks on the first stage of the project, Shadforths Civil Contractors, was also announced at the sod turning which attracted local, state and national media attention.
These preliminary construction works are now underway and will be immediately followed by civil works to build new quality streets, parkland, waterways and underground infrastructure.
The contract for Stage 1A civil, engineering and construction works is currently out to tender and anyone seeking further information should visit the ICN gateway at gateway.icn.org.au.
The importance of the new Sunshine Coast CBD to Queensland’s development was further underlined this month with the release of Infrastructure Australia’s 15-year national plan.
The document said steps should be taken to foster long-term growth in Australia’s smaller cities, increasing their vitality while moderating the infrastructure challenges facing larger cities, and the design of the new CBD is consistent with many of the plan’s key recommendations.
There is plenty more to come and I look forward to providing you with another progress report in my next update.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for our new and improved website which will be up and running shortly. This is a truly exciting project to be leading and I thank you for your continued support and interest.
